When children visit our office they are surprised to discover a friendly and colorful place that has been carefully designed to put them at ease. The waiting room has children's books, toys and video games.
Our prime purpose during the first visit is to introduce your child to the office environment. At this time we will examine your child's teeth for cavities that may need repair and also those that can be maintained through oral hygiene, sealants and fluoride treatments. We will also examine you child's soft tissues and check for orthodontic problems. If your child is in pain we will make a special effort to put the child at ease, while relieving the pain.
As a rule we allow parents to accompany the child into the treatment area. If however, your child becomes uncooperative we might ask you to leave until the child cooperates. You can help your child overcome any misconception about the dentist by explaining that the first visit will be to count teeth, take pictures and brush teeth. Tell the child we are special dentists who ony take care of children. Avoid references to "needles or shots", "teeth being pulled", "drilling", or "hurting". This only serves to frighten the child. We will explain these in our own words at the right time.
If you have any questions or special concerns, please feel free to call. If you are in the area, you are welcome to drop by and visit our office. You will see why children are so comfortable with us.
